5 Tips For Planning a Play Date For Your Child

Planning a playdate doesn’t have to mean figuring out a whole afternoon of activities, snacks, and entertainment.

In fact, the easiest playdates are usually the simplest ones.

Here are 5 little things that can make planning one much easier:

  1. Don’t invite half the class. A small group can be much easier to manage, and your child may actually have more fun with just one or two friends.
  2. Pick a time when everyone is functioning. Avoid the very hungry, very tired, very close-to-bedtime window whenever possible. 😉
  3. Don’t overplan. Have one or two activities in mind, but let the kids play. They don’t need a Pinterest-worthy itinerary. They'll want to do their own thing a lot of the time.
  4. Keep food easy. A few simple snacks and drinks are plenty. This is a playdate, not a birthday party!
  5. Let the kids do the inviting. This is my favorite one. Instead of just sending a text to the other parent, let your child actually invite their friend. Not only does this give them a sense of independence, but it's a great exercise for their social skills as well!

And I have something that makes that part really easy (and a lot more fun).

Check out these Playdate Invitation Cards that you can print, fill out, and let your child hand to their friend.

It’s such a simple little thing, but kids love getting to be part of the planning. It's also just a great way to request a parent's phone number so you can plan future playdates.
